Lights! Camera! Action!
Thursday, October 21, 2004

My answers to this week's Thursday Threesome meme:

:: Lights! Camera! Action! ::

Onesome:  Lights! -  What do you think of the trend to light up houses for *every* holiday?     It used to be just Christmas and maybe Halloween, but lately the stores have been full of Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day lights.     Oh, and Thanksgiving/Autumn and...

A.  For me, personally, I'm not all that crazy about it.     If it is someone else's 'cup-o-tea' then, I guess that's they're prerogative.     For me, it just seems to "lessen" the excitement and joy of "looking-forward" to all the decorations just once a year.     As a kid, that was part of the Christmas season - to plan a drive to look at all the lights.

Twosome:  Camera! -  What's your preference?     Digital or film, black and white or color, portraits, candids, or just whatever catches your eye?

A.  As a photographer, I'll probably always lean toward my 35mm cameras with a multitude of lenses, but I do enjoy the ease of editing with digital.     I have both, and use both, for my work.     I use mostly color film, but do like to shoot architectural works and some nature shots in b&w.    My main focus in subject matter are abandoned buildings, old structures, architectural details, bridges, and natural scenery (trees, flowers, birds, animals, etc.).

Threesome:  Action! -  Do you have a favorite sport?     Do you follow the local high school or college team, trek to the kids' games each weekend or are you all about the pros?

A.  I don't really have what could be called a "favorite" sport.    I don't follow local high school sports programs.    I do follow Alabama Crimson Tide football *Roll Tide* the Tennessee Titans football team (I'm originally from TN), and Atlanta Braves baseball.

Past Life Test

I took a Past Life Test here, and these were my results:

"You were male in your last earthly incarnation.

You were born somewhere around the territory of which we now know as modern Ukraine, approximately in the year 1775.

Your main profession was: leader of a powerful and feared army.

A brief psychological profile of you in that past life:

Timid, constrained, quiet person.     You had creative talents, that waited until later in that life to be liberated.    Sometimes others considered you strange.

A lesson that your last past life wishes you to learn in your present life is:

It always seemed to you, that you perceptions of the world are somewhat different.    Your lesson is to trust your intuition as the best guide in this present life.
"

The "funny" thing about this is . . . I had a "spiritual guide" reading several years ago and this description is very similar to the description of my "spiritual guide."     Coincidence???

Actor/Actress Association

I stumbled across this meme at: Electric Bugaloo and thought it might be fun.     So, here goes:

"OK, we've all seen those word association memes, right?    Well, let's put a little spin on it.    I'm gonna name an actor or actress, and you tell me the first first first thing that pops into your head, whether it be a movie or TV show they've done, or maybe just the fact that "she f*cked Scott Baio" or whatever.

Hey.    I'm trying to be original here.    Give me a break.   OK, here we go:"

1.   Jodie Foster The Accused;

2.   Ben Affleck brain-fart hook-up with J-Lo;

3.   Farrah Fawcett (Majors) layered "wings";

4.   David Hasselhoff Bay Watch;

5.   Lindsey Lohan never seen a thing she's done (thank goodness!);

6.   David Caruso mega-overinflated ego;

7.   Salma Hayek Edward Norton;

8.   Russell Crowe tries to play the bad boy;

9.   Christina Ricci Wednesday Addams; and

10. Keanu Reeves Point Break.

What Kind Of Girl Are You?

I took the quiz . . . you can, too . . .

You're Progressive Girl

The description of the Progressive Girl is as follows:

Moderation in all things, excess in nothing.

-- Epicurus

Imagine that the Girl Next Door moved to the big city.      Think of Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally.      She's America's sweetheart with an urban sensibility.      She's a post-Christian spiritualist, a pre-Monica Clintonite, and a dues-paying member of at least one social-change organization like NOW, Planned Parenthood, or the Sierra Club.      You won't find her at an Earth First or PETA meeting, though.      Those are the Granola Girl's stomping grounds.      Progressive Girls want the world to be a better place, but they live out their politics in a moderate, left-of-center way.

If you are going to date a Progressive Girl, the one sin you can commit is to be a chameleon.      Molding your opinions to fit hers will lose her respect.      One very positive thing you can do is offer her new experiences -- the Progressive Girl is fearless about trying new things.      Whether it's pluralism, skydiving, Asian peanut sauce, or this book, the Progressive Girl is always looking for new ideas.

She Might Be a Progressive Girl if:

She drives: a small SUV but really wishes it got better mileage; once she can get a good hybrid, she will.

She can talk for more than ten minutes about: just about anything.

She begins her sentences with: "Susan Sarandon says..."

She'd never: pass up the chance for a new experience.

She owns any of the following: a water filter, a tabletop fountain, an acre of rain forest, a mutt from the pound.

You can check out the entire site at: Cooking to Hook Up: The Bachelor's Date-Night Cookbook and, of course, this quiz falls under the All Rights Reserved caveat of the authors' site - and is respectfully used here with all links back to the original site.

Electric Mind Hump

From this week's Wednesday Mind Hump - Week 41 meme:

It's Hump Day again -- isn't that electrifying?     It should be especially since today is Electricity Day which commemorates Benjamin Franklin's historic kite flight waaaaaay back in 1752.     What a shocking discovery!    *rolls eyes*    Hmmmm, kite, key, storm ... sounds like Ol' Ben could have easily joined our crazy clique.     Maybe what they say is true ... "There's a fine line between genius and insanity."     Hey!     Does that mean we're all borderline geniuses?     Woo Hoo!

Let's charge our minds with a little pre-humping action --

Tell us about a memorable shocking (or odd, interesting, valuable) discovery.     Example: Mom lied.     No matter how many goofy faces I make my face will NOT get stuck like that forever.     Or -- if you wrap celery in aluminum foil it will stay fresh and crispy for weeks.     Or -- Trix really ARE for kids!.     You get the point.

A.  A friend, who had no reason to lie about his "relationship status" because our friendship was beyond those superficial hang-ups, told me that he was living with this woman.     Four months later, I find out (because the woman calls me because my # is on the caller id) and identifies herself as his wife.     I find out they've been married for over two months at that time.     Major situation on the lying front - especially since there wasn't a reason for it!

Here we go -- ladies and gentleman, start your humps.

This week, some "getting to know you fun" with a wittle wobble.

01.    If you had an off/on switch, what would you want it to switch off/on instantly?

A.  The tendency to interject before the other person has finished their sentence (especially since it really pisses me off when someone does it to me!).

02.    Your favorite celebrity will be knocking on your door in exactly one minute.    Considering you only have one minute, what would you do before you answer the door and how would you greet them?

A.  Check my hair and make-up.   Take several deep breathes so I'm not hyperventilating.     Greet them with a warm and sincere hello and invite them in.     If they're knocking on the door, they chose to come - so, it's a chance to get to know one another.     I would just try to treat them like any other guest in my home.

03.    If you could save time in a bottle, what time(s) would you save?

A.  1980-1981, the Summer and Autumn of 1987, the Summer of 1992, all of the great times with Marshall, Renea, Jon, and Toby, February 2003, a week in September 2003, a few days in December 2003, a few days in January 2004, concerts, parties, and those long telephone calls with CC.

04.    Look around you.    First, tell us what room you're in.    Now, name the first red thing you see ... likewise blue, and yellow.

A.  I'm in my studio/office.    The first red thing I see is the Alabama Crimson Tide mouse-pad.     The first blue thing I see is a New York Police Department ball cap.     The first yellow thing I see is the gold Mardi Gras beads hanging from a bulletin board.

05.    If you had a peephole in your head, what might people see when they peep in?

A.  Chaos!

Week 28 - Home Shows

This week's TV Tuesday meme responses:

Week 28 - Home Shows
"We've been doing a lot of redecorating around our home lately and checking out some of the home decorating shows, I'd never really watched them before but have found a few kind of interesting so this week    Home shows are in the spotlight!"

1.   Do you watch home shows regularly?    If so, which ones?

A.  As a professional interior designer, I've watched a lot of DIY, renovation, home improvement, and decorating shows over the last several years.    As for watching any regularly, not really.     The only ones that are viewed more often than others are This Old House, Design On A Dime, Designer's Challenge, Country Style, Homes Across America, Restore America, Curb Appeal, and Surprised By Design.

2.   Have you ever followed a tip that you learned from a home show or TV?

A.  Of course.     You always have to be open to new ideas, and willing to incorporate others' expertise into your own projects.

3.   What is the best (worst,stupidest,coolest...) thing you've ever seen on a home show?

A.  The stupidest thing had to be on a Trading Spaces show - and, NO!, I don't watch that show (I find it totally obscene!), but actually read about the show in a news article that was describing this "decorating detail" as it was part of a lawsuit.    They had plastered straw from hay-bales all over a woman's wall, and her son had severe allergies, and she had been very specific about what she didn't want in the space.     She actually won the lawsuit.

~Bonus~   If your home had it's own show what would it be called?    Why?

A.  Constant Changes.    My house is my "testing-ground" for new colors, projects, and designs.

Ten Really Scary Movies

This week's Ten on Tuesday meme responses:

"Halloween is just around the corner, and one of my favorite things to do is invite some friends over and watch a scary movie (but not TOO scary because I'm a chicken).     So in the mood of the season, share with us your top ten scary movies!"

This is really hard for me because . . . I find most "scary-movies" actually rather amusing (so sue me - I have a sick & twisted sense of humor!).     I'm not sure I can come up with ten and, as a caveat, I must say that I won't go for the usual slashers (Halloween, Nightmare, etc.) as those are too predictable and cookie-cutter for me.     Okay, here goes . . .

  1. The Omen (this one was scary);
  2. When A Stranger Calls;
  3. The Last House On The Left;
  4. Night Of The Living Dead (a little campy);
  5. The Vanishing;
  6. Se7en;
  7. Rosemary's Baby;
  8. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?;
  9. Burnt Offerings;
  10. The Legend of Hell House.

And, an Honorable Mention goes to: The Amityville Horror.

Hmmmmmmmmm?!?, once I got started, it was a little easier than I thought.     But, still, I had to "think" about it for a while as most of the movies that popped into my head that are classified as "horror" are more "camp-and-humor," imo.

Friday Fiver - Ala Jane
Friday, October 15, 2004

The answers to this week's Friday Fiver meme:

1.    Are you repressing any urges?

Definitely.       Quite a few, actually . . . but, that doesn't mean I'm going to list them here.

2.    What's the worst you've ever screwed someone over?

If I admitted it here, then everyone would know about it.       I prefer my vindictive behavior to be stealth and covert in nature.       But, TRUST ME!, there are several people who have suffered my wrath!       (granted, most [imo] deserved exactly what they got!, and, then some!)

3.    Who's on your "celebs I wish I could make out with" list?

I don't get into the whole celebrity scene.       There are a few celebs that, if they called, I wouldn't say "no," but . . . I'm not naming-names just for the sake of roll call.

4.    Have you ever faked an orgasm?

As if I would (1) ever admit it; and (2) ever admit it here.       That sorta defeats the purpose of "faking," doesn't it?

5.    If you were forced at gunpoint to get a tattoo, what would it be?

I don't need to be forced at gunpoint.       I'm wanting to get the Harley-Davidson wings, with some sort of other stylized graphics, on my lower back.       I'll probably get it within the next six months to a year, depending on . . . a few things.

Friday Five - Dreams

The answers to this week's Friday Five meme:

1.    What was the last dream that you had about?

About a relationship between one of my best friends and myself.

2.    Does it hold any significant meaning to you?

Yes.       Sometimes I tend to over-analyze certain situations and my dreams tend to put things into better perspective.

3.    Do you dream in color or black and white?

Vivid, living color!

4.    What is the most frightening dream you ever had?

I can only remember having three nightmares in my whole life, and all three involved snakes.       And, I can remember each one just as clearly today as if I just dreamed them last night.

5.    Is there one dream that stays clear in your mind despite the fact it was more than a few years ago?

Several.       Whenever I'm struggling with something, whatever it may be, my maternal grandmother visits me in my dreams as a "guide."       Afterwards, things always seem a little clearer, a little easier, or more manageable.

From this week's The Thursday Threesome meme:

::Kitchen Gadget Store::

Onesome:    Kitchen -    What's your favorite room in your place?       Do you migrate towards the kitchen, or prefer to cozy up in the living room?

My favorite room is the family room.       I can curl up on the oversized leather sofa and watch the big screen, or read a book, or listen to music, or hang out with friends.

Twosome:    Gadget -    What's your favorite gadget type item and why?

A chopper-hopper kinda thing that I bought at a trade show.       The demo at the trade show was how to make fresh salsa with the gadget, and that's exactly what I use it for.       And, I make G-R-E-A-T salsa!

Threesome:    Store -    What's your favorite store, even if you never actually buy anything there?

For home stuff, it is a toss-up between IKEA, Restoration Hardware and Plow & Hearth.       But, I actually do shop at all three.       Otherwise, hands-down, my favorite store is definitely Victoria's Secret.       I max out my Angel's platinum card regularly!

TV Tuesday - Week 27
Tuesday, October 12, 2004

From this week's TV Tuesday meme:

Week 27 - New Seasons

It's officially fall and most of the new shows and new seasons have started, let's talk!!

1.       Is there a new show that's caught your attention?       Good or bad?

CSI:NY       I never got into the CSI: Miami spin-off because of David Caruso's ego but, CSI:NY was a long-anticipated wait for me, and it was well worth the wait, imo.

2.       Were there any season premieres you were just dying to see?       Did they live up to the wait?

The original CSI.       I was just glad that George and Jorja worked things out with CBS brass before filming started for the new season.       I couldn't imagine the show without Nick and Sara.

3.       What's your all time favorite season or show premiere?

Twin Peaks.       David Lynch managed to pull you in with the two hour season premiere, and hold you for the first season, and into the second season (before getting too far "Lynchian" even for himself).

~Bonus~       Did you ever end up liking a show that you disliked the premiere of?       Which show?    Why?

Yes, but it was the previews, not the premiere, that I disliked.       The Dead Zone.       I couldn't imagine how they were going to turn the book and original movie into a series, especially with Anthony Michael Hall, but they managed to pull it off very well.

Autumn
Monday, October 04, 2004
In response to this week's Monday Madness, which says:

"Since in this part of the world, we are in the midst of changing seasons, I was inspired to ask the following . . . Using the letters in the word 'AUTUMN' describe your favorite season."

[Author's Note: Autumn IS actually my favorite season!]

Alabama Crimson Tide football!

Underneath blankets, sitting by a fire on late evenings, talking with friends about life.

Taking the motorcycle on long rides to enjoy the changing colors of the season.

Under a big, beautiful harvest moon, contemplating the vastness of the universe.

Making my famous 3-alarm chili for friends & family.

Nature's extravaganza of color!

WELCOME AUTUMN!
