Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas
Thursday, January 06, 2005

The first Thursday Threesome meme for the new year:

Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas

Onesome:   Fish -   Do you have a favorite outdoor hobby or are you a strictly stay at home type?    I love riding on the back of our Harley, and I also love sitting by any body of water - reading, writing, or just enjoying nature.

Twosome:   Chips -   Do you gamble? Lotto, weekly poker night or weekends in Vegas?    I have an addictive personality.     I love casinos, I just try to stay out of them because I don't know when to stop.     I love slot machines and, even when I get 'up' on my winnings, I keep feeding the slots until I'm broke.     I've recently discovered No Limit Texas Hold'em Poker.     So far, it's just been for chips - no money - and I do quite well.     But, if I get near a casino, I'd probably be broke in no time.

Threesome:   and mushy peas -   What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten?     I haven't really eaten anything that could be considered really too strange.     I've had squid, eel, snails - and I like sushi.     But, I'd NEVER be a contestant on Fear Factor -- that's beyond my level of eating something - UGH!

Looking Forward, Looking Back
Tuesday, January 04, 2005

The first TV Tuesday meme for the new year:

Welcome to the first TV Tuesday of 2005!     It's that special time of year - - when we look back at the year that was and look forward to the year that will be.     A lot of people make resolutions too.     So, this week, we're gonna have a bit of looking forward and bit of looking back...

1. Did you watch more or less TV during the holidays?     Did you sample any new shows in repeats or watch reruns of your favorites to catch-up?     Less.     With parties, traveling and other activities, I only watched the shows I cannot do without (and, even a few of those were pre-empted by holiday specials).     I watched CSI, CSI:NY, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU, and House
.

2. Did you get any TV on DVD as a gift during the holiday season?     Not TV, but I'm going to get the latest CSI season and the latest Law & Order: Criminal Intent season on DVD soon.     I did get The Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again on DVD, though.

3. Which do you like more - - watching the ball drop in NYC or all the college football bowl games?     I prefer the ball dropping in NYC, but didn't watch that this year because Dick Clark wasn't there to ring in the new year.

4. Looking forward - - are there any mid-season replacements shows or any returning shows your anxious to see?     The new season of Monk begins on January 21st, with two new cast members replacing his nurse and her son.     Other than that, nothing else is really on my DVR schedule.

~ BONUS ~ If you watched Dick Clark's Rocking New Year's Eve (hosted by Regis), rate this year's event without Mr. Clark.     Was it good, bad?     Just OK?     Did you miss Dick Clark or was Regis enough for you?    I refused to watch this year's Rockin' Eve without Dick Clark (especially since I have a strong dislike for Regis).     Instead, we watched the giant peach drop on the local Atlanta station instead.

Ten Things . . . In 2005

The first Ten On Tuesday meme for the new year:

Ten Things You Look Forward to Doing in 2005

01. Planning our Harley trip to Savannah, Georgia - and going on the trip;
02. Finding new publications to carry my column;
03. Getting my column syndicated;
04. Getting my photographs in more art shoppes and boutiques;
05. Getting my artwork in more shoppes and boutiques;
06. Getting myself more organized and focused on reaching my goals;
07. Illustrating the book my s.o. is writing, and finding a publisher or having it self-published;
08. Attending several H.O.G. rallies throughout the year in several cities/states (doing the ABCs for Hog Tales, and doing the mileage contest for our local chapter);
09. Read all of the books and see all of the movies that -- by all accounts, due to their 'classic' status or age -- I should have already read and seen; and
10. Spend more quality time with friends, make time to see them more often, and be a little more "pushy" about scheduling times to get together!

Monday Madness - New Year
Monday, January 03, 2005

The first Monday Madness meme for the new year:

Name...
1. The most exciting thing that happened in your life this past year.
This is hard to narrow down.     I would have to list several things -- getting our Harley-Davidson, traveling back to Carpinteria, CA and spending a week in a B&B, and moving back to the South (closer to family and friends).

2. Three resolutions that you've thought about making.
(1)  Stop consuming sodas (caffeine and sugar);   (2)   Drink more water;   (3)   Pursue more avenues for selling my artwork in boutiques.

3. Your biggest accomplishment this past year.
Getting my annual holiday event approved by Chase's Calendar of Events.

4. Your biggest challenge this past year.
Surviving my s.o.'s six months of unemployment while he was in the process of purchasing his own business.

5. Something you tried for the first time (whether it be food, a sport, a hobby, etc.)
No limit Texas hold'em poker.     Addictive, fun (and, potentially, extremely expensive).

...and this next one comes from Andrea...
6. Name 3 (or however many) things that happened this year that you did not anticipate happening. And on the flip side, name 3 (or however many) things that didn't happen this year that you expected to happen. These could be personal things, professional things, national things, things in the news; anything really.
(1) Selling my "dream" 107 year old Victorian farm w/acreage after the struggles to purchase it and the renovations we completed on it;   (2)   Moving back South, closer to family and friends; and   (3)   Buying a new construction house after we began looking for a historic 100+ year old house with acreage.     (1)  One of my best friends was scheduled to deploy to Iraq in the Summer, but that was postponed until after the first of the year;   (2)   The same best friend found out that he doesn't have to go to Iraq due to his ACL surgery last Spring; and   (3)   My cousin to try to spend more time with me since I moved closer to home (she never visited during the three years I lived in the D.C. area, and never visited during the five years that I lived in Memphis, TN - even though I came home and visited her often).

...and this one comes from Storyteller...
7. Where do you (or WOULD you) go for inspiration when you run out of questions for a meme?
Books, movies, music, and television.

8. Something you'd like to accomplish (or do) this coming year that you didn't get a chance to do last year.
Getting my column syndicated, and my artwork in more shoppes and boutiques.
