Monday Madness meme (a day late):

1.    Bed & Breakfast or hotel?

Definitely a B&B!

2.    What determines where you stay? (i.e. price, accommodations, transportation, travel package)

Price, location and amenities.

3.    When determining where to stay, do you ever consider the establishment's history? (i.e. it might be haunted, location of high profile crime)

History has sometimes determined the choice of location, as well as the age of the establishment, architectural details, ghost stories, legends, etc.

4.    Would such considerations sway your decision?

They have, and do.

5.    Do you try and read the local paper for where you're visiting, to get an idea of what the area's like?

Yes, I always read local newspapers, as well as local "underground" papers, free weekly papers, etc., to get a real feel for the area, and the activities.

What Do I Want?

Daydreaming On Paper - Random Inspiration

Q.     What do you want right now?

A.     I know this sounds so silly and self-indulgent but, what I want right now is a big bag of hot tortilla chips and a big cup of hot goat cheese from my favorite Mexican restaurant.    I've been craving that since . . . well, . . . since Tuesday, which was the last time I called in my carry-out order for chips and cheese dip.    I know . . . not heart- (or thigh-) healthy but, . . . oh-so-yum, yum, yummy!

Thanks, Dawn - it's great to be back with the "Purple Ink" gang again!

Is It Really Bad Timing?
Monday, June 14, 2004

"I would rather live in a world
where my life is surrounded by
mystery than live in a
world so small that my
mind could comprehend it."

- Harry Emerson Fosdick

Have you ever just thought to yourself . . . "I must have the worst timing . . . ever?!?"     I have a lifelong friend who, although we should have followed a different path in our relationship, we had (or is that have?) the worst timing ever!     How can the cosmos conspire against two people who are the other half that makes a whole?     Yet, time after time, after time, it seems as if we are merely two pawns in a giant game of life.

I saw a movie once and, incredibly, being the videophile that I am, I simply can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but it goes something like this . . . a couple meet, "connect," and lose each other through some contrived cinema happenstance.     The movie is a series of uncomfortable events with them just-missing one another in a random succession of situations - such as one stepping onto an elevator as one steps off the next car, doors opening and closing in choreographed perfection; one getting into a cab as a cab pulls up behind the first and the other gets out of the second cab; and so on, and so on.

I read a book several years ago which changed my perspective on feeling sad about our situation.     At least, for snippets of time throughout our lives, we have connected on so many levels that reach a spiritual connection that cannot be destroyed during the absences.     This book, which I highly recommend to anyone who is struggling with feelings that they missed certain chances in life, will put things into a different acuity. The book is entitled, Only Love Is Real: A Story of Soulmates Reunited by Brian L. Weiss, M.D., and is a fascinating read that will leave you contemplating even more.

"We do not grow absolutely, chronologically.
We grow sometimes in one dimension,
and not in another, unevenly.
We grow partially.     We are relative.
We are mature in one realm, childish in
another.     The past, present,
and future mingle and pull us backward,
forward, or fix us in the present.
We are made up of layers, cells,
constellations."

- Anais Nin

Overwhelmed
Friday, June 04, 2004

The last few weeks have been extremely difficult -- both personally and professionally.     I won't bore anyone with the details here (or elsewhere) but, suffice it to say, I definitely understand the meaning of the word "unbearable."     I've neglected ALL of my writing -- blogs, columns, articles, etc. -- without a care for the consequences my actions may bring.

Although I have a policy to not discuss politics, I must say that I am experiencing some extremely strong feelings since learning that one of my very best friends has been notified of his activation status, and is on alert for deployment to Iraq.

I'm also in the beginning stages of preparing for a long-distance move.     Although this move is a "good thing," there is still a lot of stress involved in selling, then buying, a house in two different States, and packing up an entire house for a move.

I know -- this isn't anything tabloid-newsworthy . . . but, right now . . . it is my life.

... more to come
